Gill Kirk: writer

“A bit of genius.” “A real ear for political nonsense.” “Riveting, hilarious and also a cautionary tale.” – audience members, Skin In The Game, AWT’s New Wimbledon Theatre

This part of the site is about creative writing work only. It’s where commissioners can request to see past work, writers get an insight into processes, and directors and performers can hear what it’s like working with me.
I’m always interested in collaboration and connections: tell me things

A bit of context…

For the readers of this part of my world, I’m a playwright and screenwriter who’s spent over thirty years inside and around the institutions that shape our public life.

In terms of place, I’m Glasgow-born, comp-and-Oxford educated, Westminster-trained, and Bath-based. When it comes to living, I love what I do: I am fascinated by people, how we work together, and what happens when we do. I believe looking at each other from the outside (and ourselves, from the inside) is a human obsession. One of my ways of exploring this with others is by making plays and (sometimes) films:

“I just saw a play that kind of blew my mind. It was terrifying, hilarious, and I’ve got a lot to think about.” – Audience, New Wimbledon Theatre, November 2021

There’s a blog that comes out every so often, which you’re very welcome to sign up for. And if you’re a commissioner, funder, writer, director or cast member, there’s info through the menu below for you, too. I very much hope you enjoy it.
