The New Play Is “Done” (and we might be, too…)

First new script in five years (hey, that’s Covid for you)….

Just typed THE END, like they do at the start of the movies, when terrible things are about to befall the over-confident writer anti-hero.

Found myself merrily tapping away at 2am, forgetting meals, dreaming plots, catching voice-notes, dream-casting celebs, dismantling great works to see how they do it, and all that excellent self-forgetting way of living that comes when you’re making something that grips you. Three whole months of being utterly possessed.

Obviously, right now, I think it’s Not Awful. I Quite Like It. This is officially Draft 1, but its arms, legs, nose, wig etc have all been reworked multiple times. Later drafts and other emotions are on the way, but this is a Moment Worth Marking.

What can I tell you? It’s called EXPENSIVE. It’s a 75-minute two-hander. A very black comedy. My dream casting is Emma Thompson and Ken Stott. And I have made myself laugh some filthy laughs while writing.

Well done, me 🙂

#Expensive. About Nimbyism, protest, art, jade eggs and wee. And saving the planet. Or not.
